This month in the garden it is time to prepare for SUMMER. Yes, believe it or not, it is not too early to be preparing for summer. So grab your seeds and your soil and let’s get gardening!
Summer Squash: There is nothing like frying up some summer squash on the grill. Everyone knows veggies taste so much better when they are homegrown. Towards the end of April plant your summer squash in the garden. Be sure to give them plenty of room to grow!
Melons: What is better than a juicy watermelon on a hot Summer’s day? Now is the time of year to start planting your favorite melons, Watermelon, cantaloupe, or Honeydew. Whichever your favorite might be, give them 6-8 weeks of growing time for the perfect melon.
Tomatoes: Red or green, however you like them, it is time to start planting them. Tomatoes take 8-10 weeks before you can harvest them. These fruits are perfect for any home garden or apartment patio.
Tidal Wave Silver Petunias: This elegant flower not only looks beautiful planted in your garden but also hanging in your planters. With 50% sunlight and 50% shade needed, these flowers are meant to hang off your porch.
Cleome: These feisty flowers come in white, rose, pink, and lavender. They are easy to care for and grow in clustered the size of softballs. The flowers are perfect for any garden and give you the most bang for your buck.
Seeding Mix: Black Gold Seedling Mix is a highly refined natural & organic mix that is excellent for seed germination and root growth of newly germinated seedlings. It is fine, yet porous and water-retentive and has an organic wetting agent to ensure uniform water penetration.
Rain Water Meter: April showers do bring May flowers, but what if it soaks your soil before you can grow anything? This rainwater meter offers an instant and easy to read digital format. It checks soil moisture where it counts at the root level. Monitoring a plant’s soil moisture level helps prevent over and/or under-watering.
